HOCKEY DYKE IN CANADA

Hockey. Inside. Outside. Backside. Offside.

Fuelled by a personal infatuation with the game, HDIC hopes to take you where sport broadcasting dare not go. The blogcast highlights the communities and people who make hockey, test rules and express stuff. It’s an inter-media documentary project, designed to raise awareness and build an audience for the women’s game, community leagues and new ways of doing hockey. Offerings: original videos, sounds, profiles, discussions and encounters with an assortment of hockey players, sport nerds, rink rats and beautiful losers.

HOCKEY DYKE

Hockey Dyke (M.E. Winks) plays and follows hockey devotedly – but not exclusively (she also loves volleyball and dancing). She believes the game offers a way to see the world – from sexuality to politics - and likes that hockey’s smell lingers after play.

Winks has been playing hockey since she was 11 years old. She played for the McGill Martlets (#13) and one year for the Montreal Wingstar (on the fourth line!) in the NWHL (now CWHL). She plays for the Ninja Tune Wicked Deadly Karate chop in the Montreal League of the Arts and founded/administers The Lovely Hockey League: Co-ed hockey for beginners, rusty vets and kindly folk. She works in independent media in Montreal, where she skates on the edges of art, culture, news and sport.
